YOUR FUTURE IDEAL SELF... NOW

While dwelling on past experiences can be very useful, especially in identifying long-held or emulated patterns of belief (whether inherited or experienced), the true purpose of change work and hypnotherapy goes beyond simply revisiting what has already happened. As renowned hypnotherapist Milton Erikson wisely stated, "People don't come to therapy to change the past; they come to change the future." This statement captures the essence of what most individuals seek from change work and hypnotherapy: the ability to break free from the limitations of the past and create a more fulfilling future.

Consider these points:

  1. The Past is Immutable: We cannot change what has already happened. Dwelling on past events, no matter how painful, cannot alter them.  Instead, the true goal is to focus on recognising how past experiences may influence current behaviours and emotions. By understanding these connections, we can gain the tools to choose different responses and move forward more empowered. The past is our best teacher, but it does not necessarily have to determine the present or the future.

  2. Focusing on the Future is Empowering: These hypnotherapy tracks empower us by shifting our focus towards personal growth and positive change. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, we learn to identify our goals, and in particular, the energetic state we seek to derive from attaining them,  develop coping mechanisms, and cultivate resilience. This future-oriented approach equips us to navigate challenges and build a more fulfilling life, defining what is wanted.

  3. Hypnotherapy is a Proactive Tool: Therapy is not technically a time machine; it's a proactive tool for shaping our beliefs and perspectives and thus shaping the future. Individuals listen to hypnotherapy to improve their present and future situations. Hypnotherapy actually distorts time, as the subconscious mind does not 'know' time in the linear sense.  Hypnotherapy can help you to learn how to manage stress, build healthy relationships, and overcome limiting beliefs. It provides the guidance and framework needed to achieve our goals while engaging the deep mind to achieve them in the best way possible.

  4. Understanding the Past Informs the Present: While hypnotherapy doesn't aim to change the past, it may involve exploring the past to gain valuable insights. By identifying past experiences that contribute to current struggles, individuals can develop self-awareness and break free from negative patterns. This understanding becomes the foundation for building a brighter future.

While the past plays a role in shaping our present, change work isn't really about rewriting history. It's about taking the knowledge acquired and utilising it to determine our best selves.

It's about using the lessons from the past to empower us to create a more fulfilling future. By equipping ourselves with the tools and perspectives to navigate challenges and build resilience, hypnotherapy empowers us to move forward with greater clarity, purpose, and hope.

In Summary:

Use the Past to know what you don't want. Get clear on that. FIRST. And utilise the learning and contrast to focus consistently, steadily, and calmly on what you DO WANT.
